Modern Christmas Trees – Nix the Red and Green

Curating your modern Christmas tree – unconventional color schemes – WITH decorations!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!
Not only green in summer’s heat,
But also winter’s snow and sleet.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!

CURATING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Christmas – It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Before the stockings are hung from the chimney with care there’s a lot of work to be done! Decorating for the holidays is no small task, but no other time of year evokes the magic found at Christmas.

You want your space to look special, but where do you begin – with red and green? No, your vision is clear, crystal clear. it’s a modern version of Christmas dancing with sugarplums in your head.

Those bare branches need attention, some orientation if you will, to showcase personality and style. Featured are a few designs that inspired me.

Christmas is a time of nostalgia for many, but that does not mean you can’t mix it up and think outside the wrapped box when decorating. The vintage look is relevant, but not the status quo. We’ve come a long way, baby! If you’re still using red and green don’t worry. The classic colors are timeless. Non-traditional color schemes have gained popularity (for good reason) – and the finished looks are amazing!

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

Bold Christmas decorations

You never saw it coming – black and white accented with bright, bold colors. The diamond plaid ribbon paired with the black and white striped tree skirt is nothing short of genius in design and adds a layer of flair. The lime green, teal, purple and pink oversized ornaments definitely convey a merry and bright atmosphere. Take note, this magical showstopper is a trailblazer in modern Christmas decorating.

PRETTY IN PINK

Incorporating pink into a Christmas design is something you’d think only Walt Disney could do well. Step aside, Mr. Disney. The pink mesh ribbon is expertly arranged and is accented with complimenting hues of blues, purples with a hint of yellow to incorporate the Spongebob lover of the house. Fit for princesses of all ages, the pink tree skirt makes me want to twirl.

HOMAGE TO HOGWARTS

Harry Potter Christmas Decorations

The wizardly concoction of this epic Harry Potter Christmas tree has fans cheering for the boy who lived once more. The burlap quote ribbon paired with dreamcatcher garland conjures the symbolism of the books in finite detail, and this tree is so good I think Santa will bypass the coal. No need for lumos maxima, this tree has a Hogwarts Castle tree topper.

Polar Bear Christmas Decorations

Stuffed animals used as ornaments are the real stars in this monochromatic white display.  Simple yet sophisticated, notice the Polar Bears are a bigger size than traditional ornaments and not only compliment the overall design, the stuffed bears create a Christmas tree worthy of a Winter Wonderland.

POINSETTIA IN BLUE

The Poinsettia is the official flower of Christmas, but a poinsettia in blue? Yes, please! The non-traditional choice on this flocked tree is gorgeous. Believe it or not, the live plants can purchased in blue, although their altered with dye. Read more about that in this link.

MODERN FARMHOUSE

Modern Farmhouse Christmas

No green branches in sight on this modern interpretation of what should be the new farmhouse style. Clear lights magnify the simple beauty while the chameleon mix of colors is enchanting, which is what the holidays are all about. Add a fabulous tree topper, a pop of black accents and you have pure magic.

GOOD AS GOLD

Metalics are very popular in design so it makes perfect sense to incorporate the look into Christmas tree decorations. The use of gold is refined but yields a wide range of class and rustic charm.

GNOME PLACE LIKE HOME

European folklore says the gnome is a mystical creature with the purpose to safeguard precious treasures. Gnome lovers delight in this fantasy collaboration of innovation and whimsy – on a Christmas tree.

THE GRINCH

The Grinch put Who-ville on the map, with his notorious scheming ways, but we all know he has a change of heart when it really mattered. And that my friends is what Christmas is all about.

Notice the snowflakes in the decor? Make your own with this handy tutorial!

Vintage or modern, Christmas trees exist to share the light and offer hope. There’s no right or wrong way to decorate – take a look at this link for a Christmas Tree walk down memory lane.
